No more plastic bottles in the Mensa! – Rifiuti Pillar

Plastic bottles in the Mensa are no more! Congratulations to all students, staff, and parents who have called for this important change, and a big thank you to our COMSEV Committee and So.VĂte who have kindly procured these beautiful stainless steel water bottles.

Cycle 1 secondary students have been working in their Integrated Science classes to calculate the potential reduction in plastic and the results are impressive; a reduction of approximately 1388 kg of plastic every year!

Here are how the students calculated the saving:

8 to 12 g of plastic (including the cap)

Approximately 1000 students use the Mensa daily, except on Friday; there are about 380.

There are 36 weeks per academic year.

1388.52 kg of plastic saved in a year.

This change represents a significant step toward sustainability in our school and aligns with students’ learning on SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production and SDG 13: Climate Action. We encourage everyone to keep working together to build the greener future we want!
